Sunday 22nd November - walk ***** - Levington to Nacton Shores –
sunny.
A nice still, sunny day here in Suffolk so I have a plan, go to B & M in
Ipswich to restock our kitten and bird food supplies but first we would go
somewhere nice for a walk. I thought a stroll along the Orwell would be
nice so after making a chicken sandwich and flask Mag and I headed off to
park at Levington Marina. I put my big lens on and actually attached my
monopod and we set off along the muddy footpath towards Levington Creek.
With the tide low there was loads of my favourite river mud but not many
birds. It was busy all along the walk with people making the most of the
beautiful weather! It was disappointing yet again at the small flood with
only a young swan and a couple of gulls! Around the creek past a large
family group with some wet fat spaniels, more about them later. We spotted
something in a row in the big deer field and were surprised to see six
herons in a line, like a row of grumpy old men! We decide to continue along
the upper path through the woods to Nacton Shore which offers great views
of the Orwell below. Then the young boys from the family group we passed by
the creek ran past and asked if we knew anything about dogs as one of them
had swallowed a tennis ball!!! Not good news:( Reaching Nacton Shores we
were surprised to find the bench we wanted free as it was very busy but we
sat by the field of sheep enjoying our picnic watching the world go by,
just lovely:) Then we walked back along the beach past the autumn colours
with the many fallen trees! We then take the wooden duck boards towards
Levington Church and the six Herons are still in line. Just before the
reeds Mags spots a huge herd of deer, 40 in number including an impressive
male! Then while taking some pics of the reed heads in the sun I fall off
the duck boards ending up flat on my back on my monopod bending that a
funny shape and really hurting my backside. The air turns blue for a few
minutes but we see the funny side in the end even though I am pretty sore!
We reach the creek with the sun dropping and with several widgeons on the
in coming tide it was pretty as a picture. Then back at the marina after
covering 4.60 miles we had just enough time for a quick trip to Ipswich
before returning home for a welcome cuppa and cake!
